USDF Instructor Certification

The USDF Instructor Certification Program is designed to educate instructors about the theory and skills that are fundamental to teaching classical concepts of dressage. Certification candidates must demonstrate proficiency according to specified standards for each certification category offered. The four certification categories offered are:

Certified Instructor/Trainer; Training through Second Level
Recognized Teacher; Training through Second Level
Certified Instructor/Trainer; Third through Fourth Level
Recognized Teacher; Third through Fourth Level

Certification candidates have required and recommended reading materials to help prepare for the exam, and attend workshops on lunging, riding, teaching, and pre-certification mock testing. USDF recognizes those who participate in the workshops but do not undergo the rigorous testing phases through the Associate Instructor program.

For more information on this program, you may visit the USDF Website at www.usdf.org or contact the Instructor Certification Program Liaison at (859) 971-2277 or instructorcertification@usdf.org.

Dressage Scholarships Available to attend the 2010 Lendon Gray Youth Dressage Festival

The Annual Youth Dressage Festival will be held

 July 9-11, 2010

Lendon Gray has been instrumental in advancing dressage for junior and young riders. The Youth Dressage Festival is a competition that highlights the dedication of riders 21 and younger. During this weekend, individuals compete in dressage seat equitation, individual dressage tests and a written exam. There is opportunity to have "roving trainers" work with you and the sponsors of the event have provided great prizes. The United States Pony Club is sponsoring individuals from all USEF or FEI JR/YR dressage levels to be part of a team to representing USPC. Please start and plan to earn your qualifying scores and be part of a fun and exciting weekend.  You can find out more information about this great show at http://www.youthdressagefestival.com/

The USPC plans to send one or two teams to Lendon's Gray's Youth Dressage Festival this year.  The plan is to send a team for the FEI Division as well as a lower level team.  While most of the cost of this competition will be the responsibility of the competitor, the Dressage Committee is doing fundraising to assist with entry fees and stabling costs.  To qualify for the USPC team you will need to file a declaration of intent to compete as well as fulfilling the qualifying criteria.

Age Ruling

For the purposes of this competition, the FEI age rule applies. The rider's age is the age the rider reaches in the calendar year. For example, if the rider becomes 21 years old in 2010, the rider is eligible, but if the rider becomes 22 years old in 2010, the rider is not. If the rider turns 12 anytime in the year 2010, the rider is considered to be 12 for the show.

Qualifying Requirements for All Divisions:

Rider needs one score of 55% or higher from any USEF, FEI or USEA dressage test of the level or a higher level from July 9, 2009 to June 21, 2010. Previous YDF competitors are automatically eligible at the same level or lower. The score may be received from any event (including schooling shows, events, and Pony Club competitions) where the judge is a USDF 'L' graduate, USEF or FEI Dressage judge. Rider must submit a copy of the front page only of the test with Entry Form.  Rider may compete on a different horse from the one on which the qualifying score was received. Rider may qualify for two consecutive levels with the same horse, or any two levels on two different horses (except for Introductory and Training Division Level A). A rider qualified at one level may also compete one level below as a second Division. A rider who has previously won a Division may not compete again on the same horse in that Division. If a rider is riding in two different Divisions, he/she will take one written exam and the same score will be used for each Division. For example, if a rider is riding one horse at the First Level Division and another horse at the Fourth Level Division, the rider will take one written exam (by age) and that test score will count for both the rider's First and Fourth Level Division scores. That rider will also ride the higher level equitation class. Equitation for 3rd and 4th Levels and FEI Divisions may be held together.  Horse may be ridden by one rider in two consecutive Divisions, or two riders in the same or different Divisions. A horse may compete in two Divisions only.
